In memorandum to Ann Bard

Ann Bard Award
navbar

Ann Bard was the former owner of the Cape Chin Connection Inn, located near Cape Chin in the Bruce penninsula. Ann helped us to launch our book on the flora and fauna of the Bruce Trail in May, 2005. Ann passed away February, 2012. In memorandum to commemorate Ann's contributions we are hiking the Bruce Trail again to document all flora. This will culminate in a book on the flora of the Bruce Trail, with all proceeds donated to the Bruce Trail Conservancy. Nominees of the Ann Bard Award are people who unselfishly devoted their time, energy and resources to "pay it forward" in some way. To honour their contributions they will receive a certificate of recognition and honourable mention on our website.

To nominate somebody for this award please provide a letter outlining what the person did and how they "paid it forward".

Recipients:

2016

Tanya Forde

Tanya participated in a research expedition to explore the Bruce Trail in the Bruce peninsula under Dave Jolly's leadership in 2000. Over the next 17 years as she pursued her Masters Degree in the Geosciences she donated money toward several EARTHQUEST projects and gave a talk to EARTHQUEST Biological Field School students in 2008.

2017

Martine Esraelian

Martine met Dave Jolly in 2006 when she enrolled in a primate behaviour and ecology field course to Costa Rica. They later worked together on a renewable energy project in 2012. In 2017 Martine was in need of assistance on some of her linear projects in southern Ontario. She joined forces with Dave to complete all the project work and was instrumental with helping Dave get hired on contract for the company she worked for. Martine's contagious and outgoing personality gained momentum in 2018 to help her earn the Ann Bard Award.

2018

Erin Ruggiano

Erin enrolled in the bat ID and survey certification course in 2017. In 2018 Erin assisted Dave with conducting targeted bat acoustic monitoring surveys at several EARTHQUEST sites in the Milton area. Additionally, she worked diligently at the Boyd site, near Owen Sound, a site managed by the Bruce Trail Conservancy. Erin's dedication and passion for field research help earn her the Ann Bard Award.

2020

Violetta Ilkiw

Violetta participated in the Canada Ethnobotany certification course in August, 2020. She was a very enthusiastic and eager student who was very generous and kind. Her kindness exemplifies the highest attributes of the Ann Bard Award. Congratulations on your outstanding achievement Violetta.
